The stars have aligned, the moonlight shines on the
beating exposed heart that Titilmit, the son of Tepeu the maker and Gucumatz
the Feathered spirit, has carved out of the chest of a man.
This
son was conceived and raised up a just before his parents went to xibalba and
never returned. He was small when his parents left. Had they not gone they
would have protected their creation from being destroyed.
Some
say that it is because the man in metal came that they fled.
Others
say that they are the ones who went to bring them
The
man in metal has destroyed what the creation has built. Many of those remain
and murmur that Titilmit is too childish. That he sacrifices only to waste the
hearts and he does not finish the sacrifices. That he does nothing to free his
people.
Titilmit
is the god of all.
He
has control over everything.
Some
say that he can even read the minds of others. That is why he just sacrifices
out of spite. He silences those that hearts burn with malice for his reign.
Tomorrow
is the long awaited day.
It
is then that the people will rise against the metal man.
Yes.
They
push the creation out into the infertile lands, whilst they build temples that
mock ours. They soil our sacred land with their irreverence.
No
more!
It
shall come to pass that we shall do with them what happened to the third
creation, those men of wood are here again. Now they are not of wood but of
metal. And they have multiplied, just as their ancestors did.
I
end this writing. For tomorrow is nigh,
The Next Morning
Titilmit
was asleep. He slept on the side of a creek.
The
noise of many villagers scurrying past him did not wake him, thankfully.
Everyone
went to the closest temple that they could find. Surely, there they were, the
sons of the metal man, their descendants, and our enemy.
We
all held obsidian shards in our pockets. There was no way that they would
notice them, and there was no way they would survive them.
The
time at which we would carry out the sacrifice was at midday, when the sun was
at its highest, it’s brightest.
The
time came close…11:55.
Everyone
everywhere chose their sacrifice.
At
Xunantunich was I. There I too chose my oppressor.
11:59
Everyone drew their blades.
And by the time the clock
stroke, all hands swung, but…
A FLASH OF LIGHT, A STRONG
WIND, A ROAR, A SHAKING OF THE EARTH…
All dropped their weapons at
the sight…there they were…the rulers…I stood at the feet of the maiden of the
rock. Others at the feet of the Submerged Crocodile, others at the place where
the ticks rule, others at the place of the God of the rain, but all saw their
ruler return. They all stopped us.
Cease! (All of the rulers
said at the same time)
The man in metal’s
descendants all screamed…ran, and threw themselves at the floor.
SILENCE!
IT IS BECAUSE OF YOU THAT WE
ARE HERE! HAD IT NOT HAVE BEEN FOR US, YOUR BLOOD WOULD HAVE WATERED THE CROPS
OF OUR PEOPLE!!! YOU SHOULD BE MORE GRATEFUL FOR OUR GENEROSITY AND PITY UPON
YOU! BOW BEFORE OUR SPLENDOR!
But they refused.
Immediately the ground opened,
it revealed the depths of xibalba. To which many threw themselves to the ground.
Yet some remained.
The sky rained fire, and the
trees were engulfed.
Out of fear, many more bowed.
Yet some still stood, with
more resolve now.
VERY IMPRESSIVE, YOU HAVE MY
RESPECT.
As they passed by, the
bodies of those afoot would wither and turn to dust. Everyone was by now
bowing, all…but one.
YOU, WHY IS IT THAT YOUR
BODY DOES NOT WITHER? WHY IS IT THAT YOU DEFY US?
The one still
standing…Titilmit!
I am the son of Tepeu the
maker and Gucumatz the Feathered spirit. I am the one who kills for fun. I am
the one who governs all. I AM GREATER!
Infuriated, the rulers all
charged at Titilmit! There was one that stayed back, but the gaze of those that
remained was fixed upon the rulers battling Titilmit. He withdrew from his side
a sword made of white obsidian, whose handle was of black leather, whilst the
other rulers fought only with bows arrows and spears of wood.
He slew them all.
He saw the fear in the eyes
of even his people.
I will not harm you.
Titilmit walked up to the
top of El Mirador and said for all to hear…
I AM TITILMIT! I shall
restore things to show that I govern reality itself.
And as he finished speaking,
he lifted his hands to the sky and the fire stopped, the fields bore fruit, the
lands grew mountains, the rivers bore life, the people that had withered
reappeared. All was as it was. He directed himself to them once more.
I AM TITILMIT! I have
restored all. I AM. I shall erase the memory of this day. I shall make you
forget about me. I shall let you go back and live as you did before. My fathers
allowed you to meet. Now I shall allow you to coexist. You are free to worship
those that you please. I will that the memory be gone.
With that, everyone forgot.
And Titilmit vanished. As for the one ruler who stayed back, it was the ruler
of Xunantunich. She, the maiden of the rock, marveled at Titilmit. And as he
went into hiding, she searched for him. And found Titilmit in a cave. There
they lived.
I am Titilmit. If you are
reading this, then it is because you have found the χoɓ, the story of the fifth creation. If you
do not remember this day, then it is because your memory has been wiped.
Remember this though…
The
rulers stopped to teach the man in metal a lesson, cherish their people, are
you doing that?
