Jesus I Trust in You
Jesus I Trust in You,
I haven't always... there
I haven't always... there
was even a time I
thought I was atheist.
I was mad, or I made
it seem that I was mad.
Deep down I was so hurt.
You and I knew but I
did not want to break
the facade I had built.
Jesus I Trust in You,
but I never trusted
"He is there in the Host"
I heard some say "He is
just there as a symbol"
I doubted that too I
was told to "Read John 6"
I had. Though I was taught,
no one could make that faith
enter my doubting heart.
Jesus I Trust in You,
The day I heard of a
Mexico pilgrimage
I leapt for joy. I was
going to fly in a
plane. It was a goal for
the year I abandoned.
What I had not was the
question: Are you really
there in the Eucharist?
Jesus I Trust in You,
I went into your house
hoping that you are there
I told you all my pains
tears running down my face
I talked to you not as
a God in the heavens
but as a friend. I felt
so listened to, so heard
I knew that you were there.

Iambic Trimeter means the usual iambic (alternating unstressed/stressed) meter for every line of the poem, but instead of the ten syllables that comprise a typical sonnet's iambic pentameter, this particular form uses six syllables of iambic trimeter per line. Thus, the name HexSonnetta.
