Dragonfly

Image
Oh, my little Dragonfly, I love you,  But we must depart from this land of ours.  Leave your toys and clothes. We’ll go pick flowers.  Auntie, uncle, and me will come with you too.  Daddy won’t come, worry not, we’ll make do.  How could I tell a child Dad’s behind bars?  All I can say is thank your lucky stars  That it is I and you don’t have to.  Oh, my little Dragonfly, I love you.  Tremble no more, we shall flee in the night  So, you can have a lifetime of frolic  And happiness and freedom euphoric.  Ever we part, remember my words right:  Daddy is a hero, and you are too.

A Petrarchan Sonnet

Men! Slaughtered and left like headless chickens.  Children! Young! Butchering whole families.  Mankind! Filled with hate, inhumanities,  Pain, sorrow, they all hurt like the dickens.  My heart races as the quill’s pace quickens  And the blurred lines of Nationalities,  Towering numbers of fatalities,  Splintered souls, fleeting sanity sickens  And change! Yes...Change! Stop attacking persons  And begin punishing the medium  Make them examples, teach them their lessons  You do not keep them in a “stadium”  Go proclaim to the civilizations:  Humani nihil a me alienum

The rocking stops and 17-year-old HELEN opens the door, and comes out of the car with her hair in a mess and her blouse in her arms. She looks frightened.
