Poet's Notebook Hello! So, breaking from the stories a while, I encourage you to check this blog out! It's called  Poet's Notebook So, I had some free time the other day, and I was browsing for material to take my mind off work. If you did not know this yet, let me introduce you to this neat feature: If you visit the blogger’s profile, certain words will be in blue. Those words in blue are clickable links to persons who also share the same interest that you clicked.  Personally, I love doing this.  That is exactly what I did the other day, and I found the blog: “Poet’s Notebook”! It is an awesome blog for anyone! In particular, those with an affinity toward poetry.  I emailed the author Ms. Denise Fletcher, and she was very nice and gave me the green light to add her link to this blog post. I really hope you enjoy it as much as I did.  Leave your comments if you have any ideas on how to improve this blog, or if you have a blog in particu...

Why so Clumsy?

You have eyes, a brain, and reason that accompanies it.  So, you choose to continue reading this post. However, you feel the need to ever so discreetly check and see if she is online.  "Nothing much, just a peek."  You tell yourself things like this to console the fact that you are dying to get that message! Obviously, you don't.  You start thinking about food. You picture in your mind your favorite culinary delicacy. Now your mind has deviated from the lonesome thoughts. Those thoughts that seem so absolute at times that you have thought about ways of ending them, they seem inescapable. Until the pizza guy shows up. Yes pizza! You picture yourself eating it before you even open the box. The smell alone causes your mouth to water, your stomach gets itself ready. Your brain is overjoyed. All it can think about is the task at hand. When...  The phone rings.  Probably not important. You set the box on the table. You are opening the box, when...

Exciting News

Image
I have exciting news! So... If you did not yet know, I Graduated from John Paul II Junior College. A couple months passed and I went back to my school and started volunteering as an assistant secretary. I have a desk, a fan and a stipend. It's pretty chill.  However, I come across free time often, and I don't want to idle on social media.  So... Today I was wondering about words, strange ones, or ones that are not as common. I found a page that had a hundred of them!  LITERALLY!  Here it is.  I had an idea,  the ones I like I will write them onto a word document, every free chance I get I will try to write something using the word as my key source of inspiration.  With the link you can find out which number, and you can leave it in the comments if you so wish.  Remember to subscribe, so you can be notified as these come out! I am so excited to tackle this challenge with you! PAX, Justin M. Vera 10/28/2019

How Belize Got Its Name

Image
How Belize Got Its Name The story of how a nation got it’s name Belize is a young country. It is also one that has many people, and many stories. But it only has one name. How did Belize get its name? Some stories say the Maya are responsible, others the Spanish, some the British. Not this story… Close Your Eyes & Relax... Imagine you are now in Africa… You are walking through the Congo... Imagine Walking in the forest. See the trees. SWISH SWISH SWISH. There is a tiger over there. ROOOOAR! There is a monkey in the tree. OH OOH AH AHH! There are birds in the trees. SQUAAAAACK!  Now keep your eyes closed and listen to me! Imagine you are walking in the forests of Africa. Imagine stepping on old branches. How does it sound? CRRRACK! Keep walking. We walk and see Belize! No. Not our home. A village called Belize in the Congo. See a little house, a house built of sticks and stones. A man came out wi...

Portia and Modern Women

Image
Justin M. Vera Ms. Katie Jones Eng. 210 June 25, 2018 The secrets of Portia and Modern Women Revealed “A woman is like a tea bag - you can’t tell how strong she is until you put her in hot water” (Roosevelt, 2014). Eleanor Roosevelt, the wife of former United States president Theodore Roosevelt, stated this. So, why is a woman like a tea bag? We don’t know the strength of a tea bag until we put the tea bag into hot water. A woman’s true strength comes to the surface when she gets into hot water. You will see women stand out under pressure and at that very moment you will see her determination and resolve carry the day. Never underestimate the strength of a woman. In today’s society those words hold up, but this is also true at a time before they even said these words! Portia and modern women are straightforward, most of the time, yet they are different in some ways, for example: Modern women are independent in the Merchant of Venic...

2018 Speech

Image
2018 Independence Day Vigil Presidential Speech Belize Da Fi Wi – Now & Forever, 8867 Good night and welcome once again my fellow colleagues to JP2. I begin with addressing this year’s theme “Belize Da Fi Wi – Now & Forever, 8867”. A fun fact about this theme is that it is from Corozal resident Fernanda Tun who was this year’s winner of the theme competition. Technicalities aside, let us dive into the past for a brief moment… What if George price did not start the movement for independence? What if the start of the "peaceful, constructive Belizean revolution" on 29 September 1950 had not started? Where would we be?   Imagine speaking to others about how oppressive the colonial rule of the British is, or imagine a Guatemalan rule, no diversity, and just Hispanic culture. No more rice and beans, just Chile, tortillas and frijol every day, all day! So, I ask all those present here today…        (LOOK AROUND AT EVERYON...
