A Petrarchan Sonnet

by J. M. Vera  Men! Slaughtered and left like headless chickens.  Children! Young! Butchering whole families.  Mankind! Filled with hate, inhumanities,  Pain, sorrow, they all hurt like the dickens.  My heart races as the quill’s pace quickens  And the blurred lines of Nationalities,  Towering numbers of fatalities,  Splintered souls, fleeting sanity sickens  And change! Yes! Change! Stop attacking persons  And begin punishing the medium  Make them examples, teach them their lessons  You do not keep them in a “stadium”  Go proclaim to the civilizations:  Humani nihil a me alienum.

The Weigher

Image
There are beings whose sole purpose is to weigh souls. Perhaps a loved one has met them, or you have heard of work written in myths of the ancient people of the west. If neither of these apply to you then worry not, it soon will. The weigher of realm 1-00794 was efficient. He had always done his job without falter. He was neither contented nor saddened by the fate of mortals. That changed after one judgement. It began as usual. A recently deceased and the ferryman crossed the river and were met by the weigher of souls. This flickering flame was an old man. Nothing seemed great about him, but the weigher took longer than usual to speak. The serenity of his countenance captivated him. The weigher approached and opened his cloak. He took out a golden scale. He held up the scale in one hand and in the other he held a single white feather. He opened his mouth and spoke: I am the weigher of your realm. In life we did not know each other, in death we have met but once. Despite our singul...

One Legged Black Bird

Image
I saw a one legged black bird one day When I was walking up to school. I had To stare in awe at how it balanced on One leg and ate a bug. As I wondered  How it got injured, it flew away and  Landed gracefully on a telephone Line. It was like an acrobat eating While standing precariously on the edge Of a tightrope. Despite me running late  I stood there in the middle of the road And stared at the handicapped avian. I could not afford to waste anymore Time. I walked away reciting the lines:  One legged black bird,  one legged black bird,   One legged black bird,  one legged black bird. It became a song I sang in my head  For the remainder of my journey to  School. For the rest of the day it became My mantra. When I got bored I sang of One legged black bird,  one legged black bird,   One legged black bird,  one legged black bird. I had forgotten about him for a  Few days, but in the back of my head there  Was a...

Sound! Light! Drums! Guitars! Hold up! This is a story about a guy that makes an unlikely friend. It is unlikely that you will get the voice in your head to sound like my voice. Good let us get back to the story shall we... Sound! Light! Drums! Guitars! The drums, the guitars, the vocals, those were all you could hear, all he could think of. He wanted it so badly. He got up and went downstairs, his mom had been calling him for a while, but he was ignoring her. "There you are Frank!"  " What do you want mom?"  " Stop talking to me like that, I told you already about that. I want you to go to the store to buy me some eggs, come back quick, I need them for the lemon pie. Go on your bike...
