I rode an airplane! Fifth goal for the year has been accomplished!

Divine Mercy Parish had a pilgrimage to the basilica in Mexico City from May 26th - 28th. I heard about it on one of the nights we went over to help with the audio-visual part of the night. They mentioned it and I was shocked to remember that at the start of the year I wanted to fly on a smaller plane. I was interested and raised my hand to ask the price. It was like 700. At the time I felt like it was too much in too short of a notice. In under a month, I would have to have the money. My excitement for the pilgrimage lowered as I figured I just wouldn't go. Some days passed and I gave more thought to it. I decided to go. I saved money and spent less on food. I was relieved when I paid everything off.  On Friday morning we went to Mass. Fr. Scott gave us each a scapular. We silently made our way to the side of Divine Mercy Church where the van, and the driver were waiting for us. I waited for everyone to put their luggage in, and Fr. Scott asked if I would like to go sit at the fro...

I found a job!

Image
2/23/2023 9:15 PM No I'm not a bum. I've been working since I graduated junior college. Nothing too serious and nothing that paid well. My first real job that paid well was not my favorite. I wanted to leave but I did not feel like I was ready for any other job. Weeks passed and turned into months as I kept thinking of a career path I could take. Almost nine months later, on February 16, 2023 at 2:53 pm, I got a call that gave me an opportunity to work for Guadalupe media! I had volunteered there for almost three years, I would record people for interviews, processions, stations of the cross, and masses. At one point I recorded masses during the Sunday lockdown during the pandemic. I slept at the parish and recorded the 7 AM mass. I have given my two week notice. One more week left. My last day will be on March 3rd.   4/20/2023 10:56 PM 5/9/2023 3:46 PM Two months! I have been meaning to write this a lot sooner. Proof of this comes from the empty time stamp. I am working at Gu...

January Weight

Image
As of today my weight is 323.8lbs. At the start of the year (or when I wrote My 100th Post ) I was at 327.4 lbs. I haven't really worked out, or dieted, but I cut my hair today, and I'm going to go for hopefully a run if not a walk to the border tomorrow.

Meae Vitae Fuit Mirabile

Justin Vera April 13, 2018 Creative Writing Meae Vitae Fuit Mirabile Omne quod coepit ... A freshman, he had no idea what was in store for him. How could he? Primary had been so ordinary. He associated in routines that were predisposed for him. Yes it was true he was an athlete that had gotten along great with his fellow players, but other than that he had not known true companionship. He lived as a sun, rotating, spinning around in circles just because it was told to do so. His mind was crude and needed molding and sculpting and perfecting. The raw material was there, what was not was the intricate contours that would make him into a sentient being.  Sequitur... High school. He knew none. The players that had been alongside him had fallen into the murky clutches of drugs and alcohol. An outcast now because he did not fit into the puzzle that produced a blurred image of disease, pain, and immorality. He went through first form not … What?! This is not how you narrat...

The Middle Ground

Justin Moses Vera John Paul II Junior College Trivium 101 September 22, 2017 The Middle Ground “Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon ‘em” (Shakespeare, pg. 82). The writer from the renaissance stated an argument of how people become who they are today. Back in his time opportunity came to some by birth right, others toiled and bled for their opportunities, the rest were the fortunate to have opportunity knock on their door. This nowadays can be tied into another common issue of the effects technology has on young people today. This issue can be explored from sides. Technology helps youth obtaining a better education, but technology can also devour ones time with useless habits. The idea that technology is good or bad is all up to the user. One can come to the conclusion that technology works not to build or destroy but to guide and be guided by the user so as to seize and achieve greatness. To illustrate, go back a hundred or even fi...

Explanations and Similarities

Justin Moses Vera Ms. Angela Kendrick  THEO 201 5 September 2018 Explanations and Similarities Based on Aristotle’s Metaphysics, he claimed that man is a rational animal. If so, then we all rationalize or we all justify. To justify you have to think. To think you have to question. So if you question you end up with many bizarre a jarring questions. Have these questions ever popped in your mind:  “What are philosophy and theology, and why are they crucial to a young person’s education today?” or “Can’t you live a good life without believing in Christianity?” If those questions have ever been at least in the back of your mind, then Peter Kreeft and C. S. Lewis answered those questions brilliantly. The task at hand will be summarizing and explaining what both articles have to say and what they have in common.  First of all in the paper by Peter Kreeft, “Why study Theology and Philosophy”, we learn once and for all why we need philosophy and theology now rather th...
